We've had a doozy of a winter here in the Northeast, but I have been keeping busy playing music with The Insolent Willies and The Doghouse Carpenters, as well as with other fellow travelers such as Michelle King and the occasional solo performance. I'm looking forward to doing several shows geared toward children this spring, including a stop at my son Finn's elementary school and a public event on April 13 at the Arkell Museum in Canajoharie, N.Y. That show will be entirely made up of songs about FOOD! :)

This past year has been a busy and eventful one for me musically. My bands The Insolent Willies and The Doghouse Carpenters played some great, memorable shows for many new listeners as well as old friends and fans. I also played a ton of solo gigs and got to collaborate with many terrific musicians, including Michael Eck (Ramblin' Jug Stompers, Lost Radio Rounders, Good Things, Tin Pan Alley); Michelle King (Flame); Tom Simek, Andi Thatcher and Chad Christman of Our Secret Love Society; Doc Orloff and his Blues Elixir (shout-out to guitarist Tom Metallo) and many others. I also had the pleasure of launching the Johnstown Midsummer Concert Series in my hometown; we are currently planning the 2019 season (click here for details!).
Here are (almost) all the places I played in 2018:
Usually this is the time of year when I start to slow down my performance schedule and settle in for a few months of quality time spent indoors, writing new songs and working on my instrumental chops. But so far this autumn has kept me hopping from gig to gig. Here's a little video from last weekend's Music on the Porch event in Gloversville. Thanks to Betsy E. for capturing the video and to the Gloversville Housing and Neighborhood Improvement Association for sponsoring the performance.
This summer, I have been lucky enough to perform in a number of new places around the state. It's always fun to travel to a town I've never visited before, meet some of the locals, and play some tunes for them. Here's some footage from my performance Saturday, 7/28/18, at the Hudson Farmers Market. I hope to return next summer!
I love me some John Fogerty. I recently worked up an arrangement of an old country song called "You're the Reason," which Mr. Fogerty covered on his Blue Ridge Rangers solo album. Here's a bit of it ...
It's been hotter 'n hell in upstate New York this week. I decided to check out the acoustics in the middle of Hale Creek, which runs through my backyard. This is an old gospel-blues tune called "In My Time of Dying" or "Jesus is a Dying Bed Maker." Perhaps I'll play it this Saturday down in Cooperstown, where I'll be playing at the farmers market in the morning and at Red Shed Brewery in the evening with The Insolent Willies. Hopefully it won't be so hot then, and I'll be able to keep my shirt on.
I have been playing a lot of gigs lately with my bands, The Insolent Willies and The Doghouse Carpenters, as well as doing occasional solo performances. My last solo show was at Red Shed Brewery's new taproom in Cooperstown on Nov. 18. I was one of two openers for The Rubber Band, which is a terrific Cajun-Zydeco party band based in Schoharie County, NY. I first heard The Rubber Band live way back in the early 1990s at Union College. What a treat to reconnect with those guys again after so many years! I also had the pleasure of meeting and hearing Marc Delgado, a terrific singer-songwriter from the Woodstock area. Check him out at: http://www.marcxdelgado.com/
